Aligarh (2016)

Directed by Hansal Mehta, this biographical drama depicts the controversial real-life court case of a gay college professor. With Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles, the film earned superlative reviews for its compelling drama.

Trapped  (2016)

It is a survival drama with Rajkummar Rao as the main character who gets trapped in his high-rise apartment without food, water and electricity. The film received much praise from the critics and Rao won the Filmfare award for ‘Critics Award for Best Actor’ for one of his finest performances.

Bareilly ki Barfi (2017)

Set in a small town of Uttar Pradesh, the film is a romantic comedy featuring Ayushmaan Khurana, Kriti Sanon and Rajkummar Rao in lead roles. Embracing the character of a small town salesman, Rao received the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ Filmfare award for his heartwarming performance.

Newton (2017)

A dark comedy, the film features Rajkummar Rao in the role of a government employee commissioned for an election duty in a Naxal-controlled town. The film became a critical as well as commercial success, receiving much acclaim for its fine political satire and Rao was praised immensely for his top-notch performance.

A romantic thriller directed by Anurag Basu, the film featured Emraan Hashmi, Shiney Ahuja and debutant Kangana Ranaut in pivotal roles. The movie was a box office success and Kangana received the Filmfare award for ‘Best Debut’ along with much positive reviews for her realistic portrayal of an alcoholic woman.

Queen (2014)

A simple comedy-drama woven around an under-confident Delhi girl who decides to travel alone on her pre-booked honeymoon after her fiance, Rajkummar Rao, calls off their wedding. Kangana received the Filmfare as well as the National Award for ‘Best Actress’ for her brilliantly nuanced performance.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015)

A sequel to the 2011 romantic comedy, this film marks the return of Kangana as the titular character ‘Tanu’ as well as portraying the additional role of a Haryanvi athlete. While the film received positive response from all around, Kangana’s acting in double role was especially praised and she won the National Award for her flawless act.
