Akshay Kumar fans are in for a treat. As the Bollywood megastar gears up for the release of his much awaited Pad Man, the official teaser for his next venture is out too. The exciting new project titled Gold, is an Indian sports-drama film set in the year 1948.
The teaser gives us a glimpse into the context of the story which revolves around India’s first Olympic victory as an independent nation. Based on the true incidents that accelerated this victory, Gold explores the subject in a fictionalized account.
Considering the post-independence turmoil that the country was facing, winning a gold medal at the 1948 London Olympics was a magnificent achievement. At that time, the Indian Hockey Federation had worked hard to put together a team. Undoubtedly, the team made its Olympic debut in the most unbelievable manner. We can look forward to the showcasing of all these nuances in a subtle, impressive style.
Earlier, the first poster for the film unveiled a part of Akshay’s look. Donning a mustache, the actor’s face appeared superimposed on the Olympic gold medal. Later, another picture revealed his black & white attire, carrying a sling bag and standing in the middle of a sprawling stadium. And now, the teaser offers a clearer explanation of the actor’s role. Evidently, he stars as hockey player Balbir Singh Dosanjh. Singh is a three time Olympic gold champion who played a key role in India’s 1948 win.
The film comes with the tagline “The Dream That United A Nation.” In sync with the central theme of the story, the look and feel of the teaser reflects a golden hue.
Gold is directed by Reema Kagti. Popular TV actress Mouni Roy is making her debut playing the female lead in the film. Also, actors Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Vineet Singh will appear in pivotal roles. The film
